We partnered with Mastercard to design and build its new 27,400 sq ft workplace in Budapest. Reflecting both its global values and the local culture, the company also engaged our sustainability and brand experience services.
Bringing three teams under one roof, Mastercard’s new Budapest office serves as a hub for client engagements and a catalyst for collaboration.
Thoughtful localisation of Mastercard’s global design standard ensures the space resonates with the team.
The brand experience celebrates Hungary’s rich artistic heritage.
Through partnerships with local artists and curators, a collection of artwork traces Hungary’s evolution from the influential 1920s to the present era. The office displays 24 pieces, combining works from renowned artists with rising contemporary creators.
One installation takes inspiration from Hungarian weaving, a feature in the country’s folk art. Vibrant geometric patterns are interpreted into the Mastercard logo, proudly showcased in the social area. Woven overlapping circles found in the brand mark symbolise connection and community.
A standout feature of Mastercard’s Budapest office is a 14 metre mural on the terrace. By drawing people outdoors it serves as a natural extension of the communal space. Offering dual views of Buda and Pest, the terrace promotes informal interactions, relaxation and offers a change of scenery.
The real joy of this project came from uncovering meaningful stories with the local team and bringing them to life in the brand experience.
Jess Adkins, Brand Experience Design Lead - EuropeThe project is targeting LEED ‘Gold’ certification. To achieve this, our sustainability team integrated various energy-efficient features into the office design. These features include energy metering systems that monitor consumption and allow for adjustments to minimise waste, as well as Energy Star-certified appliances.
Additionally, the office uses a chilled beam cooling system and sensor-controlled, energy-efficient lighting to optimise energy consumption. For water conservation, the plumbing fixtures are designed to save approximately 229,000 litres annually.
We selected materials and furniture with low VOCs to maintain good indoor air quality. Additionally, we prioritised products with a high recycled content to support our certification goals.
Our workplace solutions bring hospitality-inspired collaborative spaces to the work floors. As a result, Mastercard’s new Budapest office fosters a relaxed, team-oriented culture.
Flexible spaces allow the team to adapt the environment to meet their needs. Within the open-plan layout, we paid careful attention to acoustic design, creating a comfortable atmosphere that supports both focus and teamwork.
In summary, Mastercard’s Budapest office provides an exceptional client experience and helps the local teams connect. It reflects Mastercard’s global brand identity while celebrating the distinctive culture of the Budapest team.
