A cross-campus transformation for people and innovation

Confidential technology company, Palo Alto

We partnered with a global enterprise software company to spearhead the redesign of its Palo Alto, California campus. This initiative revitalised the space with cohesive aesthetics, enhanced functionality and amenity enrichment.

Our comprehensive approach to campus masterplanning effectively assessed and addressed the unique needs of each building. The design ensures increased functionality and a unified experience across the campus, merging complex requirements into solutions.

Streamlining for efficiency

Consolidating seven buildings into three was our client’s strategic decision to enhance operational efficiency and support a more cohesive and engaging campus environment.

Our efforts centred on redesigning three buildings to elevate the employee experience and align with our client’s culture and ethos. We optimised focus, collaboration and social spaces to boost innovation and improve wellbeing through strategic design interventions.

M Moser’s expertise, creativity and innovative thinking were evident throughout every project stage – their collaborative approach to working with our internal design team was instrumental in bringing the project vision to life.

Customised solutions for business objectives

Supporting the company’s return to office initiative, we increased workstation counts and incorporated flexible settings. We included meeting rooms and designated leisure areas throughout to provide a variety of spaces for connection, conversation and collaborative work.

Enhanced client-facing areas ensure the space welcomes visitors with modern amenities and sophistication. New training room additions to the main building support new employee orientations and ongoing programs. Small, strategically placed break rooms provide private spaces for employees to reset and rejuvenate.

A fusion of functionality and aesthetics

We needed to address the needs of new workstyles through adaptable and flexible workspaces. To this end, we integrated technological enhancements such as occupancy sensors to understand and improve the environmental quality of the workspace.

The design also incorporates gender-neutral restrooms, extensive plant and biophilic installations and a sustainability gap analysis aimed at WELL certification.

Creating experience through design

Recognising the need for environments that support both concentrated work and spontaneous interaction, we implemented a series of thoughtful design interventions. These include areas for deep work, collaboration, social and self, all orchestrated to optimise productivity, innovation and wellbeing. Such environments encourage professional efficiency and serve as catalysts for creativity and innovation.

The various space types—from client-facing areas to collaborative zones and break rooms—were designed to align with modern work practices and evolving workstyles.

Moreover, our close collaboration with our client’s environmental graphics team helped integrate brand elements that orient teams around purpose and culture and enhance the campus’ aesthetic appeal.

Elevated amenities

A pivotal aspect of enhancing the campus was overhauling its amenities to reinforce a vibrant community atmosphere.

We transformed an existing café into a dynamic, multi-functional space capable of hosting all-hands meetings and other large-scale corporate events. This area features storable, modular furniture and a stage for presentations and broadcasting, illustrating multifunctional versatility.

Adjacent to this, we introduced a large social hub that blends work and leisure. The use of organic form and greenery contrast with the previous stark aesthetics, revitalising underutilised spaces and boosting employee engagement.

A model for a modern campus

This project not only transformed our client’s physical workspace but also played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s culture and enhancing the daily experiences of its employees.

By understanding the unique organisational culture, objectives and requirements, we tailored the masterplan to meet the specific needs of each building while maintaining a cohesive campus-wide design language. The result is a harmonious blend of functionality, aesthetics and user-centricity, driving cross-campus engagement and collaboration.
